porcelain floor tile

Porcelain is a great choice for flooring anywhere. It is durable, beautiful, and easy to maintain.

Richmond Tile & Bath carries three main types of porcelain floor tiles.

Glazed porcelain is made of finely ground raw materials that are pressed at high pressure, glazed and fired at approximately 2500 F. The result is a tile with a water absorption level less than 0.5% making it the perfect material for bathrooms, kitchens and common areas. It is also popular for its durability and is often specified for exterior installations such as patios and walk ways.

Monolithic natural porcelain or through color body porcelain is perfect for extremely high traffic, high stress areas. Monolithic natural porcelain is made from highly refined mineral clays and pigments, blended and pressed at high pressure.  It is sometimes pressed twice to achieve decorative results. Monolithic porcelain is highly resistant to chemicals, abrasion, and impact. It is available in natural, structured or honed finishes.

Monolithic polished porcelain has the same physical characteristics as natural monolithic porcelain, but has an additional process of polishing with diamond dust wheels. High polish results in a finish with the reflective value of a mirror and an undulated polish gives monolithic tile depth and old world character reminiscent of ancient cathedrals and palatial estates.

Porcelain tiles can also be used as wall tiles to complete a look or grand design effect. Image gallery
